Sailing on Windjammers
A journey back in time
Corporate events and private occasions can hardly be celebrated more beautifully than sailing on windjammers – those large, traditional sailing ships from the second half of the 19th century. The majestic sailors with their high masts were used for the worldwide transport of goods. To reap maximum profits for their shipowners, they were designed for carrying capacity, handling, and economy. Today, they are once again sailing the seven seas as cruise ships and, because of their nostalgic flair, are just as popular for corporate events as they are for weddings, birthdays, and anniversaries. Sailing on windjammers promises the unique experience of being transported back to another time. At 4-5 star level, we at OceanEvent have the most impressive tall ships in our portfolio. For your full charter we promise you and your guests unforgettable adventures aboard these nostalgic beauties.
Where does the term Windjammer come from?
One often reads that the word means to wail, in the sense of complaining or howling. But even with the howling wind in the yards, the term means nothing. Rather, the word windjammer, which comes from English, is derived from “to jam the wind,” which can be translated as “to press the wind.” Windjammers are therefore ships that press against the wind or are pressed by the wind. And that’s exactly what it feels like when the huge expanses of sail catch the wind, billowing and tilting the tall ship to one side. Then it picks up speed and plows through the sea – protected by a figurehead. Over 100 meters long, magnificent ships, carried by the wind alone… To experience this is a sublime feeling of freedom, deceleration, closeness to nature. A feeling that gives you goose bumps, and that we at OceanEvent know how to stage for you and your guests. With background music, a glass of champagne and appetizers at the perfect moment.
Incentive, conference or private celebration
Whether it is a sailing incentive, a conference, or your own wedding: an exclusive charter on timeless tall ships is one of the last adventures of our modern times. Visually and with their magical sailing characteristics they inspire everyone! The informal atmosphere on board is especially appreciated by incentive participants and private charter cruises. And the fact that the crew still work on board and partly sail by hand is not only intriguing to watch – it is also an excellent team building exercise for participants. Here, the importance of joint, planned work can be impressively demonstrated, forces are bundled, and team spirit is strengthened. Employees, customers, and partners form a crew that works in harmony and heads for jointly set goals. If you want to emphasize this, use the Windjammer facilities for an incentive, team building off-site, or conference for 100-300 participants.
