Christian Mühleck reports in his column “Captain’s Talk” in Events Magazine about the efforts of sustainability in the cruise market in terms of environmental protection.
“After the media repeatedly portray cruises as environmental offenders par excellence, current figures provide a more differentiated picture. AIDA is a pioneer in this field. The German shipping Company operates the world’s first environmentally-friendly cruise ship, the AIDA Nova. Thanks to Liquefied natural gas (LNG) a natural gas cooled to -260 degrees F, it emits up to 90% less emissions than conventional fuel ships. Other shipping companies are moving in and so stand 26 LNG cruise ships the delivery – among others to Costa, MSC, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess Cruises, TUI, P&O and Disney Cruises”.
