Cruise and Climate Protection
Events Magazine 4-2018
Can cruise and climate protection be ethically compatible?
“As a climate-neutral company, OceanEvent supports a wind farm in India that compensates for emissions of 52,898 tonnes of CO2eq per year, as well as the Guanare Forest Plantation project in Uruguay. Here, the afforestation of eucalyptus trees saves 127,416 tonnes of CO2eq per year, prevents deforestation of forests and promotes ecotourism. The cruise industry has recognised its responsibility for climate protection. It does a lot of things that are not necessarily perceptible to the outside world. It is thus far ahead of many comparable locations on land, such as conference centres or holiday resorts. However, the issue of sustainability is and will remain an issue on which much still needs to be done in the future.” Captains’ Talk interview with Christian Mühleck, Founder of OceanEvent GmbH
